Stone Oak

History of Stone Oak

Once several ranches, Stone Oak is the product of the insight and hard work of several developers. In the 1980’s, developers led by Dan Pamam saw the incredible potential this tremendous plot of land held for a planned community. All though the land seemed ideal for a planned community, these developers took a big risk. They envisioned and later developed a beautiful community containing multiple land uses and even a golf course and country club. The first master plan of Stone Oak was submitted to Bexar County in 1985. The first communities were developed around a colossal view of the golf course and are now subdivisions of Sonterra: The Fairways, The Gardens, The Greensview, The Midlands, and The Woods. More than 30 years later, the “Stone Oak” community continues to grow, all though the original Stone Oak community has long been built and occupied. This is because many San Antonio residents still refer to the communities residing outside the legal Stone Oak boundaries as “Stone Oak” because they are so close in distance and share common home building styles.
